- Latter Stages of the Somme

The
Somme Campaign finally ground to a halt in the mud of late Autumn,
1916. Total Allied and German casualties were approx. 1,300,000
of which the British share was some 400,000. The Allied high command
now began to turn it's attention to 1917 and the next major attempt
at a breakthrough - Ypres.
