- Soldiers of the 6th Berks - William Pullinger
L/CPL William Pullinger (service no 12828) was born in Winchester.
He was in service as a chauffeur at Chaddleworth, a village N.W. of
Newbury. His late wife would often speak of him and how on his last
leave he said that he felt he would be killed in the forthcoming "big
push" on the Somme. It is thought that William joined up in 1915
when the son of the "big house" where he worked also volunteered.
William
was killed on 1st July, 1916 and is commemorated on the Thiepval
Memorial.
