Albert
Edward Syms (c. 1895 - 1st July, 1916)
Very
little is known about Albert Syms. His father was a painter
and decorator by trade and it is thought that Albert took
over the business upon his father's death in 1913. If this
involved the employment of others then his rank of Lance Corporal
is explained, as in most units of the hastily assembled Kitchener
Battalions qualification for appointment to NCO depended almost
entirely on having such experience in civilian life.
